Structural steel plates for hull are divided into strength grades according to their minimum yield points: general strength structural steel plates and high strength structural steel plates. Shipbuilding steel plate refers to the hot-rolled steel plate used to manufacture the hull structure produced in accordance with the requirements of the classification society’s construction rules.
The ASTM A131 specification covers structural steel plates, profile steel, and steel bars used in shipbuilding.
ASTM A131 marine steel plates can be used in the manufacture of hull structures for oceangoing, coastal and inland sailing vessels. Steel plates for shipbuilding are required to have certain strength, toughness, low temperature and corrosion resistance, and good welding performance.
