What are the uses of plywood?

Plywood is one of the three major man-made boards and is also a frequently used material in decoration. It can also be used in airplanes, ships, trains, cars, buildings and packaging boxes. Common types of plywood include three-ply board and five-ply board. Plywood can improve the utilization rate of wood and is a major way to save wood.
Plywood is a three-layer or multi-layer plate-like material made by peeling wood segments into veneers or planing wood squares into thin wood, and then gluing them with adhesives. It usually uses an odd number of veneers and glues the fibers of adjacent veneers perpendicular to each other. A group of veneers is usually assembled and glued in a perpendicular direction to the grain of adjacent layers. Usually, the surface board and the inner layer board are symmetrically arranged on both sides of the center layer or the core. The slabs are made of veneers coated with glue and staggered in the direction of the wood grain, and pressed under heating or non-heating conditions. The number of layers is generally odd, and a few are even. The physical and mechanical properties in the longitudinal and transverse directions are slightly different. Common types of plywood include three-ply board and five-ply board. Plywood can improve the utilization rate of wood and is a major way to save wood.

1. Uses of plywood – types
Different types of plywood determine different uses. In order to fully and rationally utilize forest resources to develop plywood production and make the best use of materials, my country’s newly formulated national standard (draft for approval) divides plywood into painted plywood (used for furniture, sewing machine tables and various electrical appliance shells that need to be coated with transparent paint on the surface), decorative plywood (used as decoration materials for buildings, furniture, vehicles and ships), general plywood (suitable for packaging, padding and other uses) and veneer decorative plywood (used as high-end decorative materials for buildings, furniture, vehicles, ships, etc.).
2. Uses of plywood – used as interior doors
For the current door-making process, it is not difficult to make the style of plywood doors more concise, smooth and beautiful, which can meet the practical and decorative requirements of various groups of people for doors. Even so, it must be clear that this type of plywood door is not suitable for use as an exterior door, which is determined by its material characteristics. Plywood has the property of being easily degummed due to the process of gluing, and it is also not good if it is exposed to direct sunlight, which will cause the glue to dry and crack, affecting the intact and beautiful effect of the door. For this reason, this type of door has always been the first choice for interior doors. If people make it into an interior door, they can avoid the shortcomings of this door in performance.

3. Use of plywood-decoration
Plywood is very common for decorative purposes, among which decorative veneer is the best decorative board. Decorative veneer plywood is one of the most commonly used materials for interior decoration. Since the decorative veneer on the surface of the product is made of high-quality wood by planing or rotary cutting, it has better decorative performance than plywood. This product is naturally simple, natural and noble, and can create a living environment that is most friendly and elegant with people. For example, decorative veneers can be seen on the surface veneer of furniture and door panels.
